Reason -이유 

V/A -기에 (=길래)

Meaning- Indicates the reason or cause for the following sentence

                 (뒤 문장의 이뉴나 원인을 나타냄)

Examples: 

• 날씨가 덥다 + 창문을 열었다

• 날씨가 덥기에 창문을 열었다.

• 눈이 많이 오기에 외출하지 않았다. 

Note:

• The subjects at the beginning and end of the sentence are different. 

          앞 문장과 뒤 문장의 주어가 다르다.

                                       →날씨가 덥기에 (내가) 창뭉을 열었다.

• This grammar cannot be used with commands and requests
• 날씨가 덥기에 창문을 열어라. (X)

• This grammar can be used with '-았/었' and '-겠' 
• 약속 시간에 늦었기에 택시를 탔어요. (O)

• In writing(문어체) '-기에'  is used and in speaking(구어체) '-길래' is usually used.
